Italo Disco. The sparkling sound of the 80s immerses the audience in a musical universo of an era. An era where millions of Young Europeans would let loose to a wild beat of music made with synthetic and captivating melodies, more or less weird English lyrics, electronic rhythms and visionary music videos. They were cybernetic tracks fueled by hopes and dreams of the Young musicians, who were capable of releasing mind-blowing pop, and always moving between trash and brilliance. It was the world of Italo Disco: born in Italy, reinforced in Germany, that made the whole planet dance. By telling the birth and development of a music genre with many souls, this documentary analyzes the creative, productive and business aspects of what was a music industry and social phenomenon. By doing an in depth archive research with interviews to artists and leading personalities of that time. Pulsing to the engaging rhythm of tracks of that era,as well as revealing lesser-known cult songs unknown to the general public, Italo Disco. The sparkling sound of the 80s takes the viewer on a journey of Discovery of a sound that is as comercial as it is futuristic. The sound of an era often told but not always understood.

Alessandro Melazzini
Alessandro Melazzini (1974, Italy) is an Italian-German documentary filmmaker. Born in Sondrio (Italy) and living in Munich, he graduated in Political Economics in Milan and in Philosophy at Heidelberg University. After working as an author, journalist and freelance translator, he self-produced his first documentary in 2010 and founded his own production company, Alpenway Media GmbH. He collaborates with RAI, ARD, ZDF and ARTE as a director and/or producer. His films are characterised by their extreme eclecticism, ranging from Ilona Staller’s life story and deeds (La Cicciolina. Godmother of Scandal, 2016) to the description of Cistercian art and spirituality (The Legacy of the Cistercians – Italy, 2019). Documentaries produced by Alpenway are regularly selected by international festivals. Often he moves between the Alps, reason why he named his company Alpenway, a symbol for his constant desire to cross borders. For his entrepreneurial commitment as a migrant citizen, the municipality of Munich awarded Alessandro Melazzini the Phönix prize in 2015.
