Awards & Jury

In its eleventh year, Dock of the Bay will be awarding four prizes. These will be:

Dock of the Bay 2018 Prize for Best Music Documentary. The prize will be awarded to one of the films in the competition section. A jury made up of eminent figures in the film world will choose the winning film.

Gipuzkoa Provincial Authority Prize.

Carlos Mugiro

Carlos Mugiro

Film-maker, lecturer and curator of film exhibition. Doctor of Humanities from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, graduate in Communication from the University of Navarra and in Film Directing from ECAM. Together with Sergio Oksman, he has made Goodbye, America, Notes on the Other, A Story for the Modlins and O Futebol. Visiting Scholar at Cambridge University, he has published the books Ver sin Vertov. (1955-2005), The Cinema of Alan Berliner and Mi abuelo murió leyendo a Pushkin. He was a founder of the Punto de Vista festival in Navarra and its director until 2009. Since June 2017 has been director of Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola.

Pamela Bienzobas

Pamela Bienzobas

Chilean critic based in Paris. She has published in media in different parts of the world, and in books like the Dictionnaire mondial du cinéma (Larousse), El novísimo cine chileno (Uqbar), and Los Cuadernos de Cinema23 (volume on “Errancias”). Consultant for international film funds, programmes and festivals. Co-founder of Revista Mabuse.cl. Former vice-president of the international critics' federation FIPRESCI, and currently of the Académie des Lumières (Lumière awards).

Sergi Pérez

Sergi Pérez

Sergi Pérez has a degree in Fine Art and is a graduate of the ESCAC. He specialised in directing, and his final degree project El Buen Aviador (2005) was selected for festivals including the San Sebastián Film Festival. In 2007 he premiered Vestido Nuevo, which earned awards at the Málaga and Soria festivals, the SGAE Versión Española prize and an Oscar nomination in the film school section. He has made various music videos for bands like Manel, Mishima and Joan Dausa, winning several awards for best videoclip in Cinemad and Rockdelux. His advertising work has also earned him a FIAP Sol de Plata prize and selection as a Young Talent in Cannes in 2008. Since 2006 he has taught on degree and master's programmes at the ESCAC, and since 2012 on the degree in Communication Sciences at the UIC. In 2015 he premiered El Camino Más Largo Para Volver a Casa, his first feature-length piece, at the Seville festival and earned five nominations for the Gaudí awards.

Shaila García

Shaila García

Shaila García Catalán holds a doctorate in Communication Science and lectures at the Jaume I university in Castellón, where she teaches visual culture and mass media on the Degree in Design and Development of Videogames and audiovisual narrative on the Degree in Advertising and PR. Her research focuses on the critical analysis of audiovisual discourses (film, series, photography and videogames) and she is a member of the Lacanian School of Psychoanalysis.

Vanesa Fernández

Vanesa Fernández

Director of ZINEBI-International Documentary and Short Film Festival, Bilbao. Doctor and lecturer in Audiovisual Communication at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Since 2004 she has taught on and helped to run both degree and masters-level courses. Her research and publications focus mainly on contemporary documentary film. Coordinator of the multidisciplinary project Territorios y Fronteras. Research on Documentary Film-Making. She is a member of the MAC (Contemporary Audiovisual Mutations) research group at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). She has conducted research work in Argentina and been a guest lecturer at the EITCV- International Film and TV School in San Antonio de los Baños (Cuba). She also works freelance, advising on the execution of film projects.
